Attorney General Pablo Sanchez on Tuesday met with the Special Rapporteur for Freedom of Expression of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), Pedro Vaca, who is visiting Peru and has scheduled meetings with various authorities.

During the event, the Public Ministry head reiterated his respect and commitment to the principles of freedom of expression, as well as to the work of Peruvian and foreign media.

Likewise, he highlighted the role of the press, which has been important for prosecutorial work in recent years.

Furthermore, the Attorney General expressed to Vaca his concern over the so-called fake news or false information that is published on social networks and, on some occasions, disseminated by some media outlets.

For his part, the Special Rapporteur expressed his concern regarding the clarification and assignment of sanctions to the main authors responsible for the criminal acts that occurred during the protests in 2020 and also in relation to the guarantees for the press about the judicial processes faced by some journalists.

Moreover, they discussed the possibility that the Attorney General's Office and the IACHR strengthen their relations with training sessions to update information and provisions on issues of freedom of expression and prosecutorial work.
