The prominent Peruvian athletes Ines Melchor and Raul Pacheco qualified for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, where both will look for gold.
Raul Pacheco obtained the 6th place at the Rotterdam Marathon (2:11:01), which also allowed him to set a new national record.
Five years ago, he was the first Peruvian athlete to reach a qualifying place for the London 2012 thanks to the 8th place achieved at the Chosun Ilbo Chuncheon International Marathon, in Seoul, South Korea, in 2010.
On the other hand, Ines Melchor won the 1st place at the Santiago Marathon (Chile), when she made a time of 2:28:18, allowing her to get the ticket for the Olympics.
"We are doing a good job on the global level. It was about time, we've been training for 5 years, we've achieved to qualify for the Olympics and now we have to continue working, in order to achieve a good rhythm," said Ines Melchor after her victory.
