The Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM), through the Secretariat of Government and Digital Transformation, has approved guidelines establishing the profile and responsibilities of the Artificial Intelligence Officer (AIO). This role will guide the strategic, ethical, and secure adoption of this technology within public entities.
The objective is to use properly the artificial intelligence in order to have a more agile and efficient State, one better equipped to respond to the needs of its citizens through technological solutions designed to provide public services that improve the population's quality of life.
“With this directive, we reach another milestone toward the modernization of the State. We are establishing clear responsibilities so that public entities can leverage artificial intelligence in a strategic and responsible manner. We want a more agile, efficient, and digital State,” stated the President of the Council of Ministers, Luis Galarreta.
Key functions of this officer include identifying opportunities to apply AI, formulating an Artificial Intelligence Action Plan (which will form part of each entity’s Digital Government Plan), and overseeing risk management in compliance with current regulations and security standards.
Furthermore, the guidelines stipulate that the specialist must possess a university education, professional experience, and knowledge related to artificial intelligence, as well as ethical integrity and a thorough understanding of the institution in which they serve.
