Peru's Ambassador to Israel, Javier Sanchez-Checa, reported that the Peruvian Embassy in Türkiye has already contacted most Peruvians residing in Iran and indicated that an operation is being organized to provide them with support.

The diplomat explained that Peru does not have an Embassy in Iran.

Therefore, the Peruvian mission in Türkiye is responsible for providing consular services in that country

The diplomat specified that "around 120 to 130 Peruvians live in Iran."

"The Embassy has already contacted most of them, and I understand they are also organizing an operation to support them," he told RPP Noticias.

Regarding the situation in Israel, the ambassador reported that "yesterday we were fortunately able to help evacuate a family of 10 Peruvians" who were in Jerusalem.

They were transferred through the border with Jordan and are currently awaiting their flight to Madrid.

He added that support was also provided to another compatriot, who is already in Jordan.

Evacuation plan

Sanchez-Checa explained that they are waiting for the situation to stabilize in order to activate, if necessary, an evacuation plan.

This would first cover stranded Peruvians and, eventually, any Peruvian resident with Israeli nationality who, due to vulnerability, may require transfer to a safe area.

Regarding the security context, he explained that after intense attacks recorded on Saturday and Sunday, with intervals of 40 to 45 minutes that forced the population to take shelter, "since last night there has been a higher frequency of attacks (...), but it would seem that the situation tends to stabilize somewhat."

The diplomat also indicated that the Israeli government announced that the airport would reopen on Friday; however, he warned that it is difficult to confirm this due to the volatility of the situation.

The state of emergency—which was due to end today—was extended until Thursday, when it would be assessed more clearly whether the evacuation will be carried out in an orderly manner through the border with Jordan or Egypt.

Emergency number

Lastly, the ambassador recalled that the diplomatic mission has kept a direct emergency phone line available: 972 53 583 5808, as well as communication channels through Facebook and Instagram.
