10:00 | Lima, Jun. 3.

Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Ana Cecilia Gervasi and United Arab Emirates Ambassador to Peru, Mohamed Abdulla Ali Khater Alshami, signed a bilateral air services agreement (ASA), it was reported on Friday.

This event was held at Torre Tagle Palace —the Foreign Affairs Ministry headquarters— located in the Peruvian capital, Lima.

"This instrument provides the necessary legal framework for airlines from the United Arab Emirates to expand their operations to Peru; and it is complemented by the signing and recent entry into force of the agreement for the waiver of tourist visas between Peru and the UAE," read a post by the Peruvian government agency.

Thus, the United Arab Emirates is the first country in the Middle East with which Peru has signed an agreement of this type.

Its entry into force will allow the establishment of new air routes that boost travel for tourism and business involving Peru, Arab countries, and the Asia-Pacific region.
