The governments of Peru and New Zealand launched on Sunday the International Cooperation Project aimed at invigorating the dairy sector in the Inca country's Puno, Cusco and Cajamarca regions.

Aimed at benefiting small producers, such project relies on an investment of S/15.905 million (around US$4.68 million).

Peru's Agriculture and Irrigation Minister (Minagri) Jose Hernandez and New Zealand's Economic Development Minister Steven Joyce inked the mentioned agreement on behalf of their countries.

The covenant aims to increase productivity and revenues of small and medium-sized producers of milk goods in Andean areas relying on huge potential.

With support of the international cooperation agreement and consistent work of small producers —basically based in high-Andean areas— Hernandez highlighted the government's commitment to turning Peru into a dairy product superpower.

"We want to increase producers' revenues," he stressed.

Minagri's policy is to boost the farming sector. Within Kuczynski administration's first 100 days in office, the creation of the Livestock General Management section was set out.

Management section’s goal is to boost technical assistance, genetic improvement, markets access and other measures related to strengthening the national livestock sector.
