The Government of Peru, through its
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, welcomed Princess Kako of Japan, who has been
on a visit to the country.
"Her presence in Peru, dear Princess Kako, is an exceptional testimony to this connection, and we are sure that it will contribute to further strengthening the friendship between our two peoples and to projecting it towards the future," the deputy minister remarked.
During the activity, held at Torre Tagle Palace, Higueras welcomed the illustrious visitor on behalf of the Peruvian Government and wished her a productive stay in the country.
Historical background
According to the diplomat, this official visit reaffirms the close connection of the Imperial House of Japan with Peru, as evidenced when the South American country received Prince and Princess Akishino in 2014 and Princess Mako in 2019.
He also noted that the beginning of diplomatic relations between Peru and Japan dates back to 1873 when the Preliminary Treaty of Peace, Friendship, Commerce and Navigation between both nations was signed in Tokyo.
During the ceremony, the Peruvian government official, Princess Kako, and Serpost General Manager Alexander Infantes, presented the postage stamp commemorating the 150th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
Said stamp will be distributed on the postal network nationally and internationally.
The representative of Japanese royalty also visited an exhibition of historical documents, which are held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and reflect the relationship between Peru and Japan.
The above-mentioned documents date from 1873, 1905 and 1924.
