Peruvian Foreign Affairs Minister Ana Cecilia Gervasi and her Ecuadorian counterpart, Gustavo Manrique, on Wednesday inaugurated the Macara-La Tina Binational Border Assistance Center (CEBAF), which will facilitate and improve the monitoring of the transit of people and goods between Peru and Ecuador.

Peru's Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated that the infrastructure, built by Ecuador, is framed within the 1998 Peace Agreements that marked the beginning of a stage of collaboration and joint work in favor of both communities, and that this year commemorates its 25th anniversary.

The Macara - La Tina CEBAF will facilitate and improve the monitoring of the transit of people and goods.

Moreover, it will encourage trade exchange, as well as tourism flow, and will allow greater cooperation in areas such as the fight against illegal activities, environmental protection, disease prevention, and migration management.

At the ceremony, which featured Ecuadorian President Guillermo Lasso, the foreign affairs ministers of both countries signed the CEBAF implementation agreement.

"It is an honor and a great privilege to be here at the inauguration ceremony of CEBAF, which reflects the integration of our countries and expresses the great importance of the border integration," Gervasi remarked.
