Recent data shows that 67.7% of rural households in Peru had access to piped water in dwellings during the first quarter of the year, up 6.2% from the same period in 2017, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) reported Tuesday.
INEI informed that 2.2% of rural homes consumed water from drinking fountains, a 0.6% rise over January-March last year.
On the other hand, 82.8% of households in rural areas had access to electricity, posting a 0.5% growth from the same quarter in 2017.
As for electricity coverage in urban areas, 99.2% of households had access to power.
Savings
With regard to savings, 43.3% of the economically active population —aged 18 and
over— rely on a bank
savings account.
Of this group, 34.1% hold a savings account, and the remaining 9.2% have both savings and credit products.
Working two jobs
According to INEI, 18.0% of the working population in Peru take a second job in addition to their
full-time one.
