The Ministry of Health (Minsa) has administered 380,000 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine in a non-stop 36-hour vaccination drive held last weekend across the country, Deputy Public Health Minister Jorge Lopez reported on Monday.

"We were scheduled to administer 400,000 doses during this non-stop 36-hour drive, of which 380,000 doses have been given, which accounts for 95% of the goal we set," the government official said.

"We will continue to hold non-stop 36-hour drives on the weekends because we have realized that this has had a positive effect," he said at the Villa El Salvador Sports Center, where the "Vaccination Bus" came in order to visit the human settlement of "11 de Diciembre."

For her part, Minsa Immunizations Director Maria Elena Martinez explained that 9 million people have not yet received a single dose.

"We are not exempt from contracting this disease, as long as the virus continues to circulate in our country and around the world," Martinez stated.

"We have opened vaccination sites at all our health establishments nationwide. Moreover, the (immunization) brigades will visit some educational institutions to vaccinate children," she added.

Likewise, the Minsa official commented that some regions are still submitting their reports, so the final figure of this vaccination marathon will be available in the course of the day.
