Peru: 27% of target population received two doses of COVID-19 vaccine

14:00 | Lima, Aug. 24.

To date, 27% of the target population in Peru has received the two doses of the vaccine against COVID-19, Health Minister Hernando Cevallos affirmed on Tuesday.

According to the government official, this means that so far 7,574,060 people have been fully vaccinated against the novel coronavirus.

In a post on Twitter, the health sector's head stressed the importance of getting two doses to ensure full protection against the virus and its variants.

On the other hand, the minister commented on the need to close the gap in vaccine coverage.

"It is not a matter of lowering the age limit and leaving a large number of people partially vaccinated. We have to close that gap, mainly if it involves people aged 50 and above, as well as the most vulnerable," he remarked.

The Cabinet member stated that more than 559,000 doses were administered in a decentralized manner as part of the Fifth Vaccinathon.

In addition, Cevallos explained that the age ranges are being expanded in accordance with the available doses.
