Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Wednesday announced that travelers from COVID-19 hotspots like Italy, Spain, France, and China will have to undergo home isolation for 14 days, as part of the precautionary measures to combat
coronavirus.
The measure was made official by a decree that mandates health emergency in the country in order to avoid the spread of the virus.
The 14 days will be counted from the date of departure from said countries.
"In case the symptoms emerge, the isolated people shall communicate with health authorities within the jurisdiction to take the necessary measures," the Head of State pointed out.
In addition, the workplaces should issue the corresponding guidelines to implement this measure.
It is necessary to keep a record of all the passengers entering the country to monitor the situation. However, avoiding infection is citizens' principal responsibility.
"Everyone should be responsible, along with their neighbors and workmates. Everyone should behave responsibly to face this global concern," he stated.
Remarks were made in a televised statement from the Government Palace in Lima.
