Peruvian surfer Alonso Correa lost to Brazilian Gabriel Medina —world surfing champion in 2014, 2018, and 2021. Thus, the latter won a bronze medal at the
Paris 2024 Olympic Games on Monday.
However, Correa proved that he is a winner and that there will be many well-deserved successes on his way.
The Peruvian was focused on catching the best wave to ride it and showcase his maneuvers.
Every time Correa managed to get into a barrel, he renewed the hopes of an entire country that waited eagerly for a triumph.
Although today he does not celebrate a medal, his efforts and dedication to giving his best are recognized and appreciated.
The 26-year-old athlete, sponsored by the Peruvian Sports Institute's (IPD) Paris 2024 Program, scored 12.43 compared to 15.54 by his rival.
"Peru appreciates your effort, Alonso Correa," the IPD expressed on the X platform at the end of this event.
