Bundesliga side Hamburger SV have successfully completed contract negotiations with highly rated attacker Paolo Guerrero. The Peruvian forward has signed a new contract until the summer of 2014.

The attacker's previous deal was due to expire this summer and Guerrero was widely expected to leave the club on a free transfer. Valencia were supposedly interested in signing the striker, but he has now decided to stay in Germany after all, goal.com reported.

Guerrero joined Hamburg from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2006 and has since made 87 league appearances for the Rothosen, scoring 27 goals in the process.

The 26-year-old started this season in brilliant fashion by scoring four goals in the first four Bundesliga games. However, he then sustained a serious knee injury and missed the majority of the campaign as a result.

Guerrero will now get the chance to rediscover his best form under new head coach Armin Veh, who made it clear that he was very happy with the striker's contract extension.
