Breaking all previous records made by Peruvian movies, “La Teta Asustada” (The Milk of Sorrow), leads the box office in its first weekend in all cinemas of Lima, excluding the figure of attendance in provinces. The movie beat big productions such as Slumdog Millionaire, Bedtime Stories, and others.

Over 55,000 spectators saw The Milk of Sorrow. This film took first place beating all premieres of big film companies worldwide and their multimillionaire productions such as Watchmen, REC, Oscar winner Slumdog Millionaire, Bedtime Stories, among others.

From Barcelona, Spain, the director of The Milk of Sorrow, Claudia Llosa, expressed her gratitude to Peruvian public for all the support to this movie.

“I can only say thank you very much for this wonderful support, for going to cinemas to see a Peruvian production, for supporting our work, our efforts, for believing in what we do. It was very important for me to see the support of Peruvian public, my home.”

She added that this support from the public is an incentive to continue fighting for this movie in order to present it in more festivals.

“I ask you to continue going to cinemas, people who saw the movie can now recommend it, and people who have not seen it yet, give yourself the opportunity to see it. Thanks again for this wonderful news,” she said.

The Milk of Sorrow, directed by Claudia Llosa, starring Magaly Solier, is being displayed in all cinemas of the country.
