Olmos irrigation project will strengthen the process of integration between Peru and Ecuador through the trade of agricultural products that this project will generate, reported on Wednesday the Lambayeque Chamber of Commerce and Production.

Lindon Vela, general manager of said institution, said that such project will have a great impact on the country’s economy and will generate more possibilities to expand the destination markets.

“Olmos will expand Peru’s exportable offer and will generate more possibilities to enter new markets. Ecuador is a close market and a very important one for Peru,” Vela told Andina news agency.

Peruvian President Ollanta Humala and his Ecuadorian counterpart Rafael Correa will visit today Olmos project and the Trans Andean tunnel, which will allow the transfer of water to irrigate over 40,000 hectares of crops.

Said visit is included in the official program of the V Binational Cabinet Meeting held in the Peruvian northern city of Chiclayo.
