Brazilian construction company Odebrecht expressly pleaded guilty of having made illicit payments for the execution of San Jose de Sisa Highway in Peru, and even in the process prior to the bidding for this project, Lava Jato Case Special Prosecution Group Coordinator Rafael Vela has affirmed.
At the end of the interrogations of former Odebrecht executive Eleuberto Martorelli at Brazil's Parana State Attorney General's Office, Vela said the statement is consistent with the testimony of former Peruvian Transport and Communications Ministry official Celso Gamarra, who has also the status of cooperating witness.
"What I can say is that the entire statement (made by Martorelli) is consistent with the statement made by Celso Gamarra Roy and with the various positions that have been provided within the investigation carried out by Prosecutor (German) Juarez Atoche's office," he remarked.
In this sense, Vela said the received information confirmed the Lava Jato Case Special Prosecution Group's entire investigation hypothesis, which favored the requirement of preventive detention that will be assessed in Lima on those involved in the San Jose de Sisa Highway case.
"We leave with information that, from our point of view, confirms the entire investigation hypothesis (…)," he underlined.
"There are various people investigated and protagonists of everything that has been the plot of how the decision was eventually made to illegally favor Odebrecht," he concluded.
As is known, the Lava Jato Case Special Prosecution Group investigates the bribes paid by Brazilian companies Odebrecht and OAS to ex-Peruvian Government officials in exchange for public works.
