The Art Museum of the Americas of the Organization of American States (OAS) and Peru's Permanent Mission to the OAS on Thursday inaugurated the exhibition "7 Mixographs" by Peruvian artist Fernando de Szyszlo.
The Alternative Representative of Peru to the OAS, Raul Salazar, said that the exhibition is part of the cultural activities that his country carried out within the framework of its position, recently concluded, as Chair of the Permanent Council.
Peru held the position from October to December 2013, but the recent appointment of its Permanent Representative, Walter Alban, as Minister of the Interior of his country transferred the responsibility to Antigua and Barbuda, until then, Vice Chair of the Council.
The Peruvian delegate noted that Fernando de Szyszlo “is one of the most important contemporary artists and has had a great impact on the development of abstract and figurative art in Latin America, with an artistic vision that includes strong localist roots and with an eminently cosmopolitan character."
Salazar also highlighted the reflective and civic personality of the South American artist and lecturer.
The exhibition, which is on display in the Marcus Garvey Hall of the main building of the hemispheric institution in Washington, DC., reflects abstractions of Inca textiles and is the third exposition organized by the Museum on Szyszlo’s work.
His works are also exhibited in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art in Mexico, the Guggenheim in New York and the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro, among other locations.
