Northern Peru is considered one of the best places in the world to visit in 2018, according to U.S. digital magazine Condé Nast Traveler.

The list was drawn up by the magazine's publishers based on recommendations and travel experiences registered in different areas. It includes 18 must-visit destinations such as the Antarctica, South Korea, Petra (Jordan) and Malta, among others.

As is known, the Andean country's northern regions were hit by "Coastal El Niño" phenomenon earlier this year. The event was characterized by heavy rains, landslides, and floods.

Nevertheless, the area has already overcome hardships. Now its tourist infrastructure is in perfect condition to welcome visitors from all over the world.

It must be noted this recognition is important since the international magazine highlights wonderful tourist spots such as Huaca de la Luna Temple and Chan Chan archaeological complex. They are located in La Libertad region.

Furthermore, the publication stressed Leymebamba district's nature and mystery —whose museum houses over 200 Chachapoyas culture mummies— and the impressive Gocta waterfall (third highest in the world), located in Amazonas region.

In recent years, Peru's Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) has been working on the decentralization of tourism by promoting potential tourist destinations.

As a result of these efforts, several Peruvian tourist attractions have gained international recognition.

For instance, the archaeological complex of Kuelap was included in the Wall Street Journal's Top 10 List of Hot Destinations to visit in 2018.

Also, this ancient city won the National Geographic Traveller Reader Awards 2017 in the Far & Away (Overseas Attraction) category.

Likewise, Kuelap served as a shooting location for the BBC, which broadcast documentaries shot in the Amazonas region.
