A new train of Lima Metro system will be put into operation by the end of this month, thus carrying 1000 additional passengers per trip between Villa El Salvador and San Juan de Lurigancho districts.

The announcement was made on Friday by Deputy Transport Minister Rafael Guarderas, who said this is the first out of 20 trains that will progressively join Lima Metro Line 1.

Brought from Spain, each carriage was designed to transport up to 200 people —thus increasing the number of passengers per day.

Guarderas says a second train will be introduced in late December and will be operational a month later, meaning two trains will be available for additional 2000 passengers starting January next year.

The goal: 500,000 passengers a day

According to the senior official, the remaining trains and carriages are expected to arrive between September and October next year.

In this sense, the Lima Metro Line 1 will operate 44 trains with 6 carriages each, thus transporting 500,000 passengers daily.

Likewise, the new infrastructure will benefit users by reducing the waiting time at each station.

It is worth mentioning that Lima Metro expansion works are currently underway.
