Peruvian President Ollanta Humala Tasso said Thursday that the windfall profits of mining companies should contribute to national efforts to combat poverty.
"The contracts will be respected and the negotiations will allow this significant contribution to benefit the whole country," he said in his inaugural address to the nation at the Congress in the capital Lima.
As for the land management policy, he said the new government will seek to establish a participatory rational use of the Peruvian territory.
"My determination is clear, I have the will and conviction to achieve this goal, I give my word that is my goal for the Peruvian people," Humala said in front of around a dozen heads of state and delegations from more than 100 countries.
