In a demonstration of the State's commitment to decentralized development and confidence in Peruvian economy, the Government led by President Jose Jeri on Thursday signed the addendum to the concession contract for the Matarani Port Terminal (TPM), located in Arequipa region, southern Peru.
This agreement will allow the concessionaire to make an upfront investment of approximately US$700 million, aimed at increasing the port's operational capacity by around 50%, as well as strengthening the southern macroregion's connectivity and competitiveness.
This is an entirely private investment, with no use of public funds.
"This signing is a clear signal of confidence in our economy and in Peru's future," the Cabinet member underlined.
"It represents a firm step in consolidating a State policy aimed at strengthening economic growth, productivity, formal employment creation, and improving living conditions for families in regions," she explained.
With the upfront investment, the creation of 1,800 direct jobs is projected during the construction phase, which will stimulate the regional and national economy.
Likewise, the terminal's expansion will enable up to US$11 billion in investments in the southern macroregion, consolidating Matarani as a strategic logistics hub for mining, agro-export, industry, and trade.
Furthermore, it will allow the construction of a new multipurpose berth with a breakwater for vessels of up to 60,000 DWT (deadweight tons), a mineral warehouse with a capacity of 40,000 metric tons, and a modern 4.6-hectare container yard.
Additionally, the ABC dock will be modernized, increasing its depth and improving infrastructure to handle a wider cargo variety.
The addendum signed between the National Port Authority, as the Peruvian State's representative, and TISUR (Tramarsa Group) is the outcome of coordinated work involving the Ministries of Economy and Finance (MEF), Transportation and Communications (MTC); the National Port Authority (APN); and the State-run Private Investment Promotion Agency (ProInversion).
The agreement includes a 30-year extension of the concession, ensuring the port's operational continuity and its transformation into a key logistics hub for Peru's development.
Also attending the ceremony were Transportation and Communications Minister Aldo Prieto; Proinversion Executive Director Luis del Carpio; and APN Board Chairman Juan Arrisueño.
This event took place at the Government Palace in the Peruvian capital, Lima.
