Machu Picchu, the Inca’s jewel, on Inkaterra TV

19:17 | Lima, Jul. 07 (ANDINA).

Machu Picchu is a jewel for all Peruvians and as such Inkaterra Hotels in Peru launched Inkaterra TV today, a new Web channel streaming live from the citadel throughout its centenary anniversary celebrations, said Jorge Koechlin, who will take on the hosting duties for the new channel.

“Machu Picchu is a jewel and a jewel of course of the Inca Empire. Now we have the tremendous opportunity to celebrate 100 years of its official discovery”, said the renowned Peruvian ESPN and FoxSport commentator.

Koechlin explained that the discovery was actually an adventure from Hiram Bingham who did the Bolivar route and managed to get the funds -almost 30,000 dollars- and discover Machu Picchu for the world.

“We are celebrating this tremendous anniversary. We are perhaps the first country in the world that is going to do an official English language broadcast that is not the kind that comes from English native TV network”, he told Andina.

Koechlin stated that Inkaterra TV has linked-up with a network of eight high-definition video cameras around Machu Picchu to cover every aspect of the celebrations.

“It's a Peruvian English initiative. IPTV web broadcasting, it's going to be a TV channel produced in HD”, he said.

The renowned Peruvian TV commentator stated that once the Machu Picchu centennial comes to a close, Inkaterra TV will remain on-air and will serve as an outlet for tourism partners in Peru to share educational and special interest programming.

“It's going to be the Peruvian channel in terms of everything that is good news for Peru, good food, where to visit, what events and promotions are coming up, in every sense of Peruvian life. The more we broadcast the more channels we have, and therefore we are going to be more informed,” he said.

Custom-produced Inkaterra Hotels episodes showcasing the company’s ecotourism and conservation efforts are already underway with plans to mature the site into the future “Peruvian Eco Cultural Channel”.

“Instead of being a travel agent, an airline or something else, this is going to be a natural organic Peruvian TV channel”, Koechlin concluded.
