Peruvian Minister of Housing, Construction, and Sanitation Milton von Hesse said the new 27 de Enero Convention Center, opened on Thursday, will have a direct effect in the number of tourist arrivals.

After the opening ceremony, Peruvian President Ollanta Humala and Minister von Hesse noted the convention center will become the venue of important international events in the region.

Peru will be a logistics hub in Latin America due to the fact that the venue provides an important infrastructure, technological equipping and capacity to house about 10,000 people at the time, throughout its 18 halls, which can be subdivided into 22 in total.

The infrastructure was erected in record time—16 months, given the magnitude of the construction.

“The state-of-the-art technology used in the construction has helped finish the work within the time frame set,” von Hesse said.

The 27 de Enero Convention Center will host the 2015 Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group (WBG) starting Monday, October 5.

The project site area is 10,676 sq. m; while the estimated total built-up area is 84,700 sq. m, of which 35,000 will be used for parking and the rest for administrative support, circulation and services.

The said venue, also referred to as the Lima Convention Center, will host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Forum, the fourteenth session of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD XIV), the 4th World Congress of Biosphere Reserves and, the 28th Session of the International Co-ordinating Council (ICC) of the Man and Biosphere Program.
