Peru's Jorge Chavez International Airport was considered the second best airport in South America, according to the 2016 World Airport Awards ranking launched by Skytrax in Germany.

The Lima-based airport led this ranking for eight consecutive years (2008-2015). However, Colombia's El Dorado airport captured the first spot on the list this year.

Jorge Chavez is followed by airports located in Ecuador, Brazil, Chile, among others.

It must be noted the Peruvian airport also holds the 49th position at the world's top 100 airports list.

Skytrax World Airline Awards are regarded as the most prestigious accolade in the world airport industry. About 13 million clients cast their votes through an annual satisfaction survey to select the world's best airlines and airports.
