President Martin Vizcarra asserted that the Lima 2019 Pan American Games will be the sport and friendship festival of the Americas while reiterating Peru's warm welcome to the athletes during the competitions.

In his visit to the Pan American Village in Villa El Salvador district, on Tuesday, the Head of State took the opportunity to exchange a few words with representatives of Peru, Canada, Bolivia, and Mexico delegations, who are already accommodated in the place.

"We welcome you with open arms, wishing the best and success for everyone, as always (…). May the best win, showing solidarity, support, and a lot of friendship, as you have so far at the Pan American Village," he expressed.

As for the importance and legacy of the Games, Mr. Vizcarra affirmed this goes beyond the sport field and that "it has been proven that when Peru sets goals, no matter how big, if we work together, we achieve them."

The Peruvian delegation was welcomed at the Village during a ceremony attended by Transport and Communications Minister Maria Jara, Lima 2019 Operations Manager Alberto Valenzuela, IPD President Sebastian Suito, Pan American Village Mayor Giorgio Mautino, and Deputy Mayor Karin Sierralta.

The national team includes 592 athletes (308 men and 284 women), as well as 235 officials (coaches, delegates, assistant coaches, and doctors).

Water sports have the most athletes. In total, 67 swimmers will complete in the five disciplines (swimming, open water swimming, artistic swimming, diving, and water polo).
