Peruvian Ambassador to Japan Roberto Seminario has confirmed the visit of
Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to Peru in November this year, noting the participation of the Asian nation at APEC Peru 2024.
In an interview with
El Peruano Official Gazette, the diplomat highlighted Peru's interest in attracting investments in the areas of infrastructure and renewable energies, as well as in establishing a renewed bilateral agenda.
In this regard, Seminario remarked that
President Dina Boluarte's
proposal to develop a Roadmap to deepen the relationship between both countries at the level of strategic partnership has been received with great enthusiasm by the Japanese government.
"Given that the two countries are strategic partners since 2016, they guide their efforts at the bilateral and multilateral level based on shared principles and values," he said.
In this sense, the Peruvian ambassador stated that the aim is to promote more dynamic ties and a renewed agenda that is built around priority goals such as expanding political dialogue; increasing trade and investment; in the social sphere, promoting people-to-people exchanges; and increasing cooperation in areas such as education, security and defense, science, technology and innovation, among others.
According to the diplomat, the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the
Embassy of Peru in Japan have been articulating efforts at a multisectoral level in order to ensure that the Roadmap has a transversal approach to the Peruvian State's strengths and needs.
According to the Peruvian envoy, the Japanese economy is in a stage of modernization, which is largely spurred by the experience of the pandemic and the conflict in Europe.
In this sense, he noted, the need for said country to find reliable partners that represent secure sources of food and energy supply emerges as one of its priorities.
Seminario underscored that this is convergent with Peru's interest in expanding trade volumes and, especially, in diversifying the range of non-traditional products with access to this market, as well as attracting significant amounts of Japanese investment.
To Peru, he said, this is a very favorable situation considering the already important presence of Japanese conglomerates, including Mitsui, Mitsubishi, Sumitomo, Itochu, Toyota Tsusho, Marubeni, Honda, Sojitz, Nippon Koei, Kikkoman Corporation, and other companies in various sectors, which provide job opportunities for Peruvian nationals.
