Peruvian President Ollanta Humala said in his inaugural address that he wishes that Peru becomes an “inclusive nation” that gives way to “social progress” of Peruvians.
“This wish for an inclusive nation is the one that gives way to social progress and we’re here to make that happen.”
In addition, he assured that he will honor his promise of turning Peru into a place where everybody has the same right of living a decent life and being protected while growing old.
“I take on this as a challenge and as a promise that I make today to all Peruvians and especially to my children and the kids of the country, who will be the future of this nation,” the president said.
Humala recalled that on the presidential runoff election on June 5, most Peruvians expressed their wish for economic growth to go hand in hand with social inclusion.
Ollanta Humala was sworn in Thursday as the new president of Peru, succeeding outgoing President Alan Garcia.
After addressing the Congress, Humala is scheduled to host an Extraordinary Meeting of Heads of State and Government of the Union of South American Nations (Unasur) at the Government Palace in Lima.
