The Ministry of Health (Minsa) on Monday morning started to administer the fourth COVID-19 vaccine dose to all healthcare workers across the country.

The aim is to reduce the risk of COVID-19 exposure and infection, given that healthcare professionals carry out activities involving direct interactions with their patients.

The ministry said that it seeks to ensure that healthcare workers are fully protected from the most severe forms of the virus.

The vaccination of this population in Lima will continue on April 12 and 13 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the various vaccination centers that have been set up in the metropolitan area.

Minsa encouraged healthcare providers and health technicians to review the vaccination centers assigned to each professional association.

Moreover, the government agency reiterated that the fourth dose can be administered five months after the third dose.

This activity will allow Minsa to call on other groups that should take the fourth dose (seniors over 70 years of age and immunosuppressed patients) to get to vaccination sites.

The launch event took place this morning at the Campo de Marte vaccination center in the presence of Health Minister Jorge Lopez, and Minsa Immunizations Director Maria Elena Martinez.
