Health Ministry: Coronavirus cases rise to nine in Peru

13:03 | Lima, Mar. 9.

The number of positive coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Peru increased to nine, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) reported on Monday.

Within this framework, the State-run institution noted that 318 samples have been analyzed so far.

The two new patients —who have tested positive— are related to the 'patient zero'. Their ages are 78 (male) and 66 (female) years, Minsa said in a statement.

As is known, the first patient is a 25-year-old male, who had visited Spain, France, and the Czech Republic. He is an airline employee, who made the trip while on vacation.

Earlier today, it was also reported that a 50-year-old Peruvian citizen —who resides in Italy— has the disease and is hospitalized in an Intensive Care Unit at a medical center in the European country.

The statement emphasized that the National Health Institute is the only official entity authorized for the processing of samples in Peru.

Minsa is the official source of authorized information on coronavirus in the South American country. Thus, the content circulating in social media and other unofficial networks should not be deemed as true.
