"Every day, somewhere in the world, two or three Peruvian-inspired restaurants are inaugurated. This is the outcome of silent work performed throughout decades by thousands of fellow Peruvians, in order to strengthen the image of our gastronomy," Peru’s well-known chef, Gaston Acurio, claimed on Wednesday.

Acurio was granted an award by UNESCO, in Paris, and a diploma by his Alma Mater (Le Cordon Blue) due to his work promoting Peruvian cuisine.

He said the recognition is thanks to "the presence of Peruvian cuisine in the world."

"Paris is not an exception. It has also been seduced by Peruvian flavors," he added.

The chef told RPP radio station he had visited two new restaurants located in the French capital, whose chefs are young Parisians, who –due to being in love with Peruvian food- have decided their businesses will be a tribute to Peru.

"It is important that cooks, from other nations, start to open Peruvian-inspired restaurants because it means putting our culture on the spotlight," he pointed out.

Gaston Acurio is Peru's most famous cook.
