Fin Min: Peruvian economy enters expansion phase

00:00 | Lima, Feb. 13.

The Peruvian economy has entered an expansion phase, following the results of January and the preliminary results of February, referring to the increase in General Sales Tax collection and export shipping orders, Economy and Finance Minister Alex Contreras reported.

The government official commented that a monitoring and presentation on the economic situation —particularly on the good start of the implementation of public investment, which has been growing at record rates— was carried out during the Council of Ministers session held on Monday.

"In January, a record was broken, since the registration of public investment, which has contributed to the (economic) recovery," the Economy and Finance sector's head noted.

"Both January and preliminary data for February show that the Peruvian economy has entered an expansion phase; this is something positive because it will accelerate job creation," he added.

In this regard, the Cabinet member indicated that the Government is consolidating such growth with the different measures it has adopted.

"When you see the decomposition between primary GDP and non-primary GDP, you can notice that non-primary GDP is growing for the second consecutive month; that is this year's goal, to achieve a growth of 3%," he stated.

Minister Contreras also highlighted that the plans implemented by the Government in economic matters throughout the year are bearing fruit.

"There is significant growth in public investment both at local and regional government levels, which is in line with the recovery of a series of indicators," he stressed.
