Economy and Finance Minister Alex Contreras on Monday highlighted that both the
World Bank and the
Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) have reiterated their support for their economic reactivation and job creation policies that have been adopted and will continue to be implemented in Peru.
"It is the return of Peru to the world's radar. We had a very productive meeting with the Presidents of the World Bank and the IDB. They have reaffirmed their support for the policies that we are going to continue implementing, in order to reactivate the economy, generate employment, as well as improve health and education," he stated.
"They have reiterated their support to continue working with Peru. The country is a strategic partner of the World Bank and the Inter-American Development Bank, and they have expressed their desire to continue working on the country's main goals," he underlined.
Historic visit
Afterwards, Contreras described the visit as historic, since this is the first time that both bodies' representatives visit Peru simultaneously.
"In addition, this is the first visit of the World Bank President to a country since he assumed office. There is a long historical relationship with these two international institutions, which were present when the country faced its worst and best moments," he remarked.
On the other hand, the government official underscored that there are issues that need to be addressed, such as the response to climate change, the development of infrastructure, and the improvement of connectivity.
"Beyond the financial side —since Peru has had no problems getting international loans in recent years— there is this technical support to gain access to public policies that have worked," he noted.
