Fin Min: Peru to lead region's economic growth in 2019

13:09 | Lima, Dec. 20.

Economy and Finance Minister Carlos Oliva on Thursday affirmed Peru will lead economic growth among regional countries in 2019 with a 4.2% expansion, thus surpassing Chile, Colombia, Brazil, and Mexico.

"We have all the tools. There are expectations for GDP growth to exceed 4% in 2019, underpinned by a strong boost for domestic demand, particularly for private investment," the official expressed.

In this sense, the MEF representative stressed this projection is largely supported by investments in new mining, hydrocarbon, and infrastructure projects, which will be executed in 2019.

Within this framework, the following projects stand out: Toromocho expansion, San Martin Port terminal, Quellaveco and Mina Justa mining projects, Salaverry Port, Jorge Chavez Airport expansion, Block 95, as well as a broadband package implementation, reaching almost US$11 billion.

Likewise, Minister Oliva indicated the Inca country has a significant projects portfolio to be awarded in 2019-2021, meaning an investment worth US$5.791 billion.

Projects such as the Waste Water Treatment Plant (PTRA) of Lake Tititcaca, Lima's drinking water supply, and Marcona Port terminal, among others exist in this sense.
