Today, February 7, marks the National Day of COVID-19 Vaccination in Peru, because exactly one year ago the first batch of 300,000 doses of this antigen arrived in the country to start vaccinating the (eligible) population as part of a State-led strategy to combat the pandemic.

This was established by Ministerial Resolution No. 924-2021/MINSA approved on July 25, 2021, and published in the Official Gazette El Peruano.

The first COVID-19 vaccine introduced in Peru was Sinopharm. On February 9, 2021, the country started to inoculate health staff on the frontline of the fight against coronavirus: doctors and nurses in the ICU and emergency departments at hospitals across the country.

Afterwards, all health care workers became eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine.

The arrival of the first batches of the Pfizer vaccine helped provide protection for members of the Armed Forces, the National Police of Peru, as well as senior citizens.

Nowadays, the vaccine protection is available for children aged five and more.

From February 9, 2021, to February 6, 2022, 58,074,157 doses have been administered, while 23,319,200 Peruvians and foreigners residing in Peru have already received the two doses of the vaccine. Besides, the third dose has been administered to 8,460,780 people.
