Today marks the 24th anniversary of the Brasilia Peace Accords signing by Peru and Ecuador, the Peruvian Foreign Affairs Ministry has recalled.

The government agency underscored that, based on these accords, a solid relationship of friendship, trust, cooperation, and integration with Ecuador has been built —for the benefit of both peoples' social development.

Likewise, the ministry affirmed Peru is convinced that it shares a common destiny of development and social well-being with Ecuador.

"We reiterate our will to continue realizing the ideals of integration that animate the Itamaraty Peace Accords through common projects, with special emphasis on the border zone," it expressed on Twitter.

On October 26, 1998, Peru and Ecuador closed in Brasilia the longest and most complex period of their relations, which had a history of more than 150 years of disagreements.

On that day, then-Presidents Alberto Fujimori and Jamil Mahuad signed the Presidential Act of Brasilia.
