FA Min: Peru is ready to be invited to OECD

13:29 | Lima, May. 27.

Foreign Affairs Minister Nestor Popolizio on Monday affirmed Peru is ready to be invited to join the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), adding he hopes the invitation will materialize next year.

According to the high-ranking official, the Inca country's technical work concerning said matter was praised during the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting (MCM) held in Paris on May 22-23.

"Peru is ready to be invited (to the OECD), but it depends on the member countries' agreement on the invitation process," he expressed.

Likewise, the Minister mentioned the United States supports the inclusion of the Inca country and other nations of the region to the international organization.

In this sense, this opinion must be compared to the European Union's.

"My forecast is that we could join or be invited next year," he stressed.

Furthermore, Popolizio stressed that becoming a member of the OECD represents having a quality seal regarding institutionalism with very high standards in public policies and governance
