According to the report, none of Peru's three ranked institutions have improved their overall position this year.
In this sense, Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru (PUCP) remains the country's top institution, but falls from the 431-440 category to the 551-560 category.
This drop "is attributable to deteriorating scores in four of the six indicators used by QS to compile the ranking with noteworthy drops in research performance (Citations per Faculty) and global academic standing (Academic Reputation)."
Yet it stressed that Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru (PUCP) "now achieves one of the top 250 scores for
Employer Reputation, attesting to the high regard in which its graduates are held by employers across the world."
On the other hand, the other two ranked institutions, meaning Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM) and Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH) remain within the 801-1,000 category.
However, the Inca country's research performance remains lower than that of global competitors, with all three of its institutions receiving a rank between 800th and 1,000th for Citations per Faculty.
Three Peruvian universities have seen their rank for International Student Ratio drop, with none scoring more than 4.2/100 for this indicator.
Globally speaking, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) remains the world-leader for a record-breaking seventh consecutive year.
