In a joint statement, the Embassies of the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union in Peru expressed their concern regarding the amendment to Law No. 27692, referring to the creation of Peruvian Agency for International Cooperation (APCI).

"As cooperation partners of Peru, we are concerned about the proposed amendments to the APCI creation law that could restrict the capacity of civil society to operate in a conducive environment," reads the Spanish-language communiqué released on Monday afternoon.

The diplomatic missions added that democracies are more inclusive, equitable, stable, and prosperous when civil society is fully empowered to protect human rights and respond to citizens' needs.

This document was signed by the Embassies of Germany, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Spain, Finland, France, Ireland, New Zealand, the Netherlands, the European Union, the United Kingdom, the United States, Sweden, and Switzerland.

With 12 votes in favor and 1 against, Congress Foreign Affairs Commission approved by majority the decision regarding bills No. 6162, 7140, and others proposing to modify the Law creating the Peruvian Agency for International Cooperation (APCI).
