Private investment has maintained strong momentum since last year, energizing the Peruvian economy despite the El Niño phenomenon, stated Melvin Escudero, CEO of El Dorado Investments.

“Most economists have identified a very strong surge in private investment, which has been accelerating since last year,” he remarked on Andina Canal Online.

“The growth in private investment has been consistent. Despite the clouds on the horizon and concerns regarding the El Niño phenomenon, Peru’s economy is proving to be resilient—particularly in terms of productive sectors and diversification,” he added.

Melvin Escudero noted that the arrival of President Keiko Fujimori’s administration has provided a sense of reassurance to investors, given that her term is set to span a full five years.

“It is a right-leaning government—distinct from its predecessors—focused on removing bottlenecks in the economy and fostering private investment across critical sectors, ranging from agriculture and mining to commerce, finance, and infrastructure,” he explained.

“This has created positive expectations, which are now reflected in private investment levels and overall economic dynamism. Beyond the political landscape, the economic outlook is highly promising, even accounting for the temporary setback expected from the El Niño phenomenon,” he added.

From a long-term perspective, the economist emphasized the importance of unblocking projects in the mining and infrastructure sectors—two fundamental pillars for sustaining strong private investment.

“For over 15 years, infrastructure development has been relatively stalled. While some projects have moved forward, there have been very few, largely due to the excessive red tape that has severely hindered both this sector and the mining industry,” he pointed out.
