British electro-rock band Depeche Mode it's bringing the best of its "Tour of the Universe" to Lima tonight as it considers touring may be the main reason the band remains in the upper echelons of still-active rock acts, according to keyboardist Andrew Fletcher.
"We're looking forward to give a great concert tonight" he stated to a local TV station.
Fletcher confessed Depeche Mode (Singer Dave Gahan, Martin Gore and himself), never thought the group was going to be so successful when they formed the band back in school.
"We never though we would be that successful and we had our first hit record when we were 18 years old. We were realistic enough to think it would last a couple of years. Now it's 30 years, so it's an amazing dream", he said.
Depeche Mode's keyboardist said that a lot of electronic bands were very studio-tied, but touring has always been a big factor with them, right from the early days.
"Sometimes electronic bands can be stuck in a studio but we toured and that's one of the reasons we have fans all over the world", he stated.
Other reasons of their success is luck, songs, good people around them to advise them, and losts of concentration on their life carrers.
"It's pretty incredible. It's for different reasons, some say it's the way we make music. It's a real dream to be in this position for 30 years", Fletcher said hours ahead the band's first concert in Lima.
"It's very hard when you go on some many great albums released two decades ago or one decade ago, or three decades ago. We still record in the same way. At the end of the day we don't get too many influences from other people, we just try to do what we do the best".
Depeche Mode performs today at the Monumental Stadium in Lima at 9:00 pm (02:00 GMT) where over 30,000 fans will gather.
