Paracas district in Ica region received over US$3.5 million in accommodation and food service activities last weekend as part of Dakar 2018, the city's Tourism and Foreign Trade Chamber (Capatur) informed.

Capatur Chairman Eduardo Jauregui said Dakar Rally 2018 and the Peru Mucho Gusto culinary fair —held in Pisco and Paracas— gathered some 55,000 spectators, who followed closely one of the most challenging competitions of the world while enjoying local delicacies.

All accommodation establishments were occupied by drivers, assistance team members, foreign extreme sports journalists, and followers of this event.

According to Jauregui, around 500 people including competitors, mechanics, and participating company representatives stayed at Adrenarena Park —the official Dakar campsite.

It must be noted the race will now head south of Ica region to San Juan de Marcona city.

Peru, Mucho Gusto

The "Peru, Mucho Gusto" gastronomic fair welcomed people from Pisco, Paracas, Ica, Chincha, and Lima, who passed by to try traditional food.

Attendees were able to taste top Peruvian dishes. The event also featured exhibitors from neighboring regions.

Likewise, there was a superfoods exhibition and tasting session, an initiative whose main aim was to promote the quality, variety, and benefits of said national products.

Puno will also host this fair on January 10 and 11. The city will bid farewell to competitors, who will continue their journey through Bolivia and Argentina.

As is known, the Dakar route includes cities: Lima, Pisco, San Juan de Marcona, Arequipa, and Puno.

This competition —considered the world's most important off-road rally— returns to Peru after five years and is intended to become one of the most attractive editions thanks to its varied geography.
