La Teta Asustada (The Milk of Sorrow), a film by Peruvian director Claudia Llosa, has been nominated for Spain's Goya Awards for best Spanish-language foreign film.

After receiving the good news, an emotional Claudia Llosa thanked Peruvians for supporting the film.

“I'm happy for our success with The Milk of Sorrow, it's gone beyond anything we've ever imagined. Now we’ll continue to make Peru proud. Many thanks to my beloved country for its support and affection,” said Claudia Llosa.

"La Teta Asustada" won the top award, the Golden Bear, at the 2009 Berlin International Film Festival.

The movie depicts how a war of terror can damage the life of a girl who has contracted the mysterious disease "teta asustada." The disease is borne in the breast-milk of women who were raped in the terrorism war in Peru.

The 2010 Goya Awards ceremony, considered by many the Spanish equivalent to the American Academy Awards, will be held on February 14 at the Palacio Municipal de Congresos del Campo de las Naciones in Madrid.
