China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi arrives in Lima on an official visit to Peru in a bid to strengthen bilateral ties and pave the way for President Xi Jinping’s upcoming state visit to the South American nation.
Minister Ricardo Luna will hold a working meeting with his Chinese counterpart on Wednesday, according to Peru’s Foreign Affairs Ministry.
Mr. Wang flew up to Lima from Ecuador as part of a four-country tour of Latin America, including stops in Bolivia and Colombia as well.
Later, the Asian official will gather with Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski at the Government Palace in Lima.
Peru and China are looking to enhance bilateral relations and place special emphasis on the strategic partnership the two countries have since 2013.
Chinese President Xi Jinping will pay a state visit to Peru and participate in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit scheduled for November in Lima.
Kuczynski made an official visit to Beijing, where he met with his Chinese counterpart in mid-September this year. This resulted in an invitation for the Asian dignitary to come to Peru, which he accepted.
