China's President Xi Jinping has accepted Peru's invitation to attend the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum —scheduled to take place November this year in Lima— Peruvian President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski informed.
The international event will kick off with APEC's Business Advisory Council (ABAC) Meeting (November 14-17), and will be followed by APEC Leaders' Meeting.
“He confirmed his visit to Peru. We talked about Machu Picchu, and I told him Peru has many Machu Picchu-like places such as Choquequirao and Kuelap. I commented on our plans to double tourism as well,” he told Peruvian Canal N news station.
Mr. Kuczynski highlighted the importance of meeting with Chinese businessmen and counterpart Xi Jinping in his first visit to China as President of Peru.
He also reiterated his trip shows Peru’s respect for the Asian giant and brings a message on the promotion of mining, infrastructure and agro-industry investment.
According to Mr. Kuczynski, the idea of industrializing part of the mining production, instead of importing concentrates, was widely welcomed in China.
This would be a major step forward, which might take time to accomplish, but the first strides have been taken already, he continued.
The Peruvian leader's visit will run thru September 16. Afterwards, he will head to New York to attend the UN General Assembly.
