"The Port of Chancay opens up routes to China so that not only Peru can export its own products, but also become the exports center for Brazil, Bolivia, Ecuador, Chile, and other countries," Contreras indicated on Thursday.
"A very important productivity shock will be generated because we are talking about lower transportation costs and our products becoming more competitive, in addition to reducing import costs," he noted.
The government official said Peru will begin to regain the weight it has lost, considering that it had been a port power for centuries.
"Without a doubt, it is an opportunity. We have to think about Chancay, Callao, and all the country's ports that, if well managed, can generate an important boost to Peru's economy and development," he stated.
The minister underscored that a great priority of the Government is to see Peru as Latin America's port hub, which is why progress is being made in the consolidation of the Chancay-Callao axis.
"Major projects have changed the history of our country, and I vehemently believe that the port hub and the process of fostering the naval industry will change the history of Peru," Contreras said.
"We are working on different fronts, but let's not forget that Chancay, Callao, and the port hub itself mean the possibility of generating development poles in Peru," he added.

Minister Contreras said the
Port of Chancay opens up more opportunities for the forestry, agricultural, and textile sectors, among others that are developed in the jungle and highlands.
"There is also the Ancon Industrial Park that can draw different types of investment. This generates productive diversification and employment opportunities for citizens, as well as possibilities for micro and small enterprises (MSEs) to grow," he stated.
