Archbishop of Lima Cardinal Juan Luis Cipriani on Thursday asked God to enlighten and bless Peruvian President-elect Ollanta Humala and his staff so that his new government takes place in a peaceful and trustful environment among all Peruvians.
Cardinal Cipriani made this prayer during the Mass and Te Deum he officiated a couple of hours before the inauguration ceremony of Ollanta Humala, who will govern the country for the 2011-2016 period.
"Today, as he takes office as the new president, we make a prayer to the Eternal Father to enlighten him and his staff, so that he serves the country with humility and perseverance in the coming years in a peaceful and trustful environment,” he said.
Cipriani went on to say during his homily "Lord of Miracles, Christ the Pacific, Our Father, Virgin Mary, bless us, protect us and continue making of our country a great nation."
The ceremony was attended by President Alan Garcia as well as by senior government officials, local and regional authorities, among other public figures.
