In line with the country's decade-long de-dollarization trend, the private sector credit dollarization ratio dropped from 30% (Dec 2015) to 29% (Dec 2016), Peru's Central Reserve Bank reported.

The said decline was recorded in all types of credit to the private sector.

According to BCR, loans granted to natural persons —both consumption and particularly mortgage lending— posted lower dollarization rates over 2015.

Dollarization in both types of credits slid to 6.9% and 22.4%, respectively, BCR data revealed.

Regarding credit to companies, loans to medium-sized enterprises dropped 5 percentage points to 43.1% last year.

"In the case of credit to micro- and small-sized companies, the dollarization ratio fell 2 percentage points, standing at 7%," BCR concluded.
