BCR: Credit in Peru accelerates, expands 9.4% year-on-year in July 2026

Total credit to the private sector —including loans granted by banks, finance companies, municipal and rural savings banks, and cooperatives— increased its year-on-year growth rate from 8.7% in June to 9.4% in July 2026, the Central Reserve Bank (BCR) reported.

Last July, credit balances increased by 1.3% compared with June.

By segment, year-on-year growth in credit to individuals accelerated from 9.3% in June to 9.9% in July, mainly due to the expansion of consumer loans.

Meanwhile, credit to businesses posted a year-on-year growth rate of 9% in July, up from 8.3% in June.

In July, compared with the previous month, credit to individuals increased by 1%.

In turn, credit extended to businesses rose by 1.6%.

By currency, credit in domestic currency accelerated from year-on-year growth of 7.7% in June to 8.2% in July.

Foreign-currency credit advanced from 12.3% to 13.6% year-on-year between the two months.

In monthly terms, credit in domestic currency grew 1.3%, while dollar-denominated lending increased by 1.6%.
