Renowned Creole singer Arturo "Zambo" Cavero has just passed away after succumbing to a series of pains caused by morbid obesity.

The singer could not recover any more from a septic shock, multiple organ disfunction, lung deterioration, and coagulation problems, according to an EsSalud doctor's report. 

On Thursday Peruvian President Alan Garcia said that the health of his friend was very serious, and expressed his desire that a "miracle" could happen. 

“Zambo” Cavero is considered by many Peruvians as a symbol of the Peruvian identity because of his particular manner of singing that captivates his listeners, many of whom coincide that Cavero's intensity makes then feel the melodies with a truly Peruvian taste.

He interpreted, with a unique talent and inimitable voice, traditional songs from authentic and original rhythms of Peru, some of his best interpretations are songs that were composed by the notable Peruvian composer Augusto Polo Campos, other comes from a profound Afro-Peruvian traditional Música criolla.

In 1987, Cavero was laureated together with other remarkable Peruvian musicians in Washington by the OEA, honoring his merits after that the Inter-American Council of Music had a thorough evaluation of his professional career and the contribution and strong presence of the Peruvian Music in the American continent and in the rest of the world.
